Today I attended the SHAPE Body Shop LA Fitness Event that benefited the Movemeant Foundation. The cause in itself is really great, as its purpose is to empower young women to feel good about themselves through health and fitness programs. These programs can be found across the country and help to transform the lives of these young women. Be The Boss Of Your Body is their message (and a pretty damn good one if you ask me) #bossofmybody
Your $10 registration fee is your donation to the foundation, and secures you a fitness class during the event. This event included classes from Tone It Up, Flywheel, Pop Sculpt, Power Training, and many more.
I of course tried the Flywheel class, because of course you know I have a love for Soul Cycle and I really enjoyed it. There were a couple things I felt could have been better (like tightening the cleats on the shoes, and making sure the bikes were properly calibrated), but I get it. Pop Up Classes can be a bit challenging. So I DO plan to try out a “real” Flywheel class, as they offer the first class for free.
Back to the event – one of the things I really loved was the talk by Harley Pasternak. If you don’t know who he is (which I didn’t before today), he is a fitness and nutrition “guru”. He talked about 5 steps to staying (and getting) fit. These 5 steps included: 1) walking at least 10,000 steps a day, 2) sleep at least 7 hours (ha! that can be tough being a mom sometimes), 3) eat protein with every meal, 4) unplug from all electronic devices at least an hour a day, and 5) Do 5 minutes of resistance exercises every single day.
Thank you Shape Magazine for hosting a great day of fitness. Looking forward to seeing you again next year!
