I still remember my commencement speech when I was graduating from USC with my Masters in Engineering…it was a warm SoCal day and Arnold Schwarzenegger was up on stage teaching us about the rules of life….at least the ones that brought him success. So anytime I see a wonderful commencement speech from anyone memorable, I like to watch and share it.
Jim Carrey had some really wonderful words of wisdom to deliver to the graduating class of 2014 from Maharishi School Of Management, to which I’m sure they will forever remember (especially since it’s on video!). He started off by congratulating the class and thanking the faculty…and with his own Jim Carrey charm, communicated to the captivating graduates that “…all there will ever be is what’s happening here and the decisions we make in this moment which are based in either love or fear…” he moves on to say that most people choose to live their lives out of fear…. and who doesn’t? There’s always a fear of commitment, fear of not having enough money, fear of failure…however sometimes that action of fear will still lead you to failure. “You can fail at what you don’t want…so you may as well take a chance at doing what you love” which is what Carrey proceeded to tell the graduating class after disclosing his father’s struggles with following the path of fear.
and lastly, in wrapping his captivating speech with his Carrey comedy…he remind everybody that “Your need for acceptance can make you invisible in this world…don’t let anything stand in the way of the light that shines through this form…risk being seen in all your glory”….. watch the video to see what he did next…
Congratulations graduating class of 2014 everywhere.
